Policies and Guidelines
Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board
Our Policies and Guidelines
Submission of an application confirms a candidate’s agreement to comply with the terms of the audit process. A percentage of initial certification and re-certification applications are selected for audit. However, the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board reserves the right to audit any, or all applications and supporting documentation submitted by certification and re-certification candidates. If documentation requested during the audit process is not submitted or is deemed unacceptable, candidates will be denied the opportunity to sit for an examination and/or obtain re-certification status and, if applicable, will have their CNLCP® and/or CHLCP™ credential revoked.
Documentation supporting eligibility to take a certification examination will be evaluated by the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board Application Committee to ensure compliance with the Certification Board’s eligibility standards. A candidate will be notified in writing of their eligibility to sit for the examination. Should the candidate be deemed ineligible, he/she may appeal the decision by contacting the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board in writing within thirty (30) days and providing the grounds for the appeal and any supporting documentation. The information will be reviewed by the Certification Board and a decision on eligibility determined. The decision of the Certification Board is final.
Renewal candidates are selected randomly by the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board Application Committee for audit at a minimum of two (2) times per year. The Secretary (or designee) documents receipt of the information and verifies continuing education eligibility, as well as professional healthcare license status. The testing corporation is notified via email that the documentation is in order and the renewal certificate is released by the testing corporation.
The Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board will release individual test scores exclusively to the certification candidate. The Certification Board will not release the examination results or specific scores to any person other than the Certificant without written permission from the Certificant.
The public has access to a database of Certificants, which can be searched by state or name, on the Certification Board’s webpage to verify current certification. An email address is accessible on the webpage if the Certificant provided permission for its inclusion. Upon request from the individuals and/or the public, the Certification Board will verify a candidate’s initial certification and the date of renewal.
The Certification Board will share with the AANLCP® the name, address, email address, and phone number of Certificants with the Certificant approval. The Certificant is asked on the initial and recertification applications if they are willing to share this information with the AANLCP®. If the Certificant declines, their information is not released.
The Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board will investigate allegations of misconduct by Certificants. Information about misconduct must be submitted in writing and sent by certified mail to the Chairperson of the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board within sixty (60) days of discovering an alleged violation(s). If an allegation of misconduct is made against the Certification Board Chairperson, the written statement should be sent in writing to the Co-Chairperson. Supporting documentation must accompany the complaint.
Complaints may include, but are not limited to:
- Ineligibility for certification.
- Irregularity in connection with the certification examination.
- Unauthorized possession, use, access, or distribution of certification examination content, score reports, answer sheets, certificates, Certificant’s/applicant’s files, documents, or other materials relevant to the knowledge of the certification test content.
- Material misrepresentation or fraud with respect to any statement to the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board or to the public, including, but not limited to, statements made to assist the applicant, certificate, or another applying for, obtaining, or retaining certification.
- Gross and/or repeated negligence in professional work.
- The convocation of a plea of guilty or plea of no contest to a felony or misdemeanor directly related to the area of licensure or life care planning.
- Failure to adhere to the eligibility requirements for certification candidacy or continuing certification requirements, including failure to hold a valid, unrestricted professional healthcare license in the individual’s state throughout the five (5)-year certification period.
- Restriction, conditioning, or revocation of an individual’s professional healthcare license.
- Maligning another professional’s reputation.
If there is any misrepresentation or noncompliance, the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board will review the allegation, investigate the allegation, and take one or more of the following actions:
- Dismiss the allegation due to insufficient evidence, or
- Attempt to resolve the issue with the parties involved, or
- Initiate sanctions when and where indicated.
The decision is final unless appealed within 30 days.
The Certificant has the right to appeal the misconduct, misrepresentation, or non-compliance findings of the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board and the disciplinary action and/or the remediation set forth by the Certification Board. The appeal must be made in writing, via certified letter/US Postal Service, fax, or email correspondence, to the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board within thirty (30) days of notification of ineligibility. The appeal should include a written explanation of the grounds for the appeal, as well as any supporting documentation related to the appeal. In writing, the Certification Board will respond within sixty (60) days of receipt of the appeal in one of the following formats: U.S. Postal Service, fax, or email correspondence. The response will include a contact name and number for a member of the Certification Board.
It is the responsibility of the individual to initiate the appeals process. Decisions of the Universal Life Care Planner Certification Board are final.
